Horse Racing

The Set Up:

Decks: 1 → remove jokers

Players: 3 - infinity

Remove the 4 aces from the deck and place them face up in a horizontal line (x axis). Shuffle the remainder of the deck and then begin placing cards vertically face down on the y axis. You can determine the number of cards along the y axis, the more cards the longer the game will go. 7-10 is usually a good number.

The Play:

One person will need to be the designated race caller. The rest of the players will then pick a ‘horse’ (suit) to bet on -- Ace, Spade, Diamond or Club. Once all bets are in, the race caller will begin by flipping the first card of the remaining. Whatever suit is flipped, the corresponding Ace is moved up a row. This continues on, flipping the next card from the deck and moving the corresponding ace. Once every ace has moved up to the next y axis row (or past this as the Aces usually aren’t moving at the same speed), the y axis card is flipped. When a y axis card is flipped, whatever the corresponding suit of Ace must move down a row. This adds an element of challenge that your Suit’s horse may not be safe even as it begins to move up. Whichever Ace clears the last row first wins.

The funnier the race caller, the better the experiences.

The Scoring:

This is mostly a drinking game with little scoring. We usually place initial bets on drinks or can allow the winner to dole out drink amounts to the losers.
